Neuropathology/neuromuscular Histotechnologist (HTL) or Cytotechnologist (CT) position
Arkana Laboratories is interested in hiring a full-time Histotechnologist (HTL) or Cytotechnologist (CT) into the Neurohistology Lab to oversee and further develop epidermal nerve fiber density (ENFD) testing service. Duties will include tissue processing, histochemical and immunoperoxidase stains, evaluation and scoring of stained sections, and preliminary report generation.
Arkana Laboratories is a private pathology lab located in Little Rock, Arkansas, with expertise in medical renal disease and neuropathology. The neuropathology lab is currently staffed by two full-time very capable Histologic Technicians. The lab has broad capabilities with an emphasis in the area of neuropathology and neuromuscular pathology. We perform a variety of processes, including conventional histochemical stains, silver stains, enzyme histochemical stains, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent stains using both manual and on automated platforms, fluorescent and non-fluorescent in-situ hybridization (targeting DNA and RNA). The lab also performs all phases of electron microscopy. Currently, the lab receives and processes mostly muscle and nerve biopsy specimens, but we are actively expanding services for surgical neuropathology.

– Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, and/or biologic sciences, including 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry AND
– Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnologist program or ASCP accredited Cytotechnology program is required. Eligibility for the certification examination is acceptable.
– At least 2 years of cytology/histology laboratory experience based in a hospital, health department, university, medical research institution, or other institution which provides equivalent training, to include:
– Frozen sections
– Paraffin block
– Tissue processing
– Immunohistochemistry, manual and automated techniques
Note: Prior experience in neurohistology, neuromuscular histology is advantageous, but training in this area will be provided to promising candidates.
