COVID-19 Testing

Evaluation for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 (aka COVID-19 and novel 2019 coronavirus) in tissue is performed by both immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH).

Panel testing for both the presence of viral protein (IHC) and viral RNA (ISH) in the tissue maximizes sensitivity and specificity for the detection of the virus. Positive and negative controls are performed with each case.

Specimen requirements:

  1. Paraffin block or 6 unstained sections from the formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded block cut at 3 microns on charged (+) slides
  2. Samples should be shipped overnight to Arkana Laboratories at room temperature
  3. All samples should be labeled with unique identifiers and the biopsy report should be included
