Where It All Started

Picture this: it’s 2001, and a renal pathologist decides to do something a little unconventional. After more than three decades in academic medicine reading biopsies, publishing research, and training the next generation of pathologists, Dr. Patrick Walker steps away from the university setting to open his own lab. Not because it was the safe move, but because he believed patients deserved better, and he knew exactly how to deliver it.

He named this lab Nephropathology Associates. It was small. It was focused. And it was built on one straightforward idea: that everything we do should make life better for patients and the clinicians caring for them. That idea turned into a mission. That mission turned into Arkana Laboratories. And 25 years later, we’re still at it, just with a lot more microscopes.

What started as a small renal pathology lab has grown into the largest renal pathology laboratory in the country. We see things every day that most practices encounter only rarely. Today, we provide renal pathology, neuropathology, and biopharma services to thousands of practices and organizations across the world. That depth of experience drives better science and better outcomes for patients.
