This acellular scanning EM from a biopsy with membranous glomerulonephritis, stage II shows a reticular appearance of the subepithelial glomerular basement membrane. The extracted deposits previously resided in the darks spaces. The lighter glomerular basement membrane corresponds to “spikes” that would be seen on silver stain.
