Stephen Bonsib, M.D., M.S. joined Nephropath in 2012, following five years as Chair of Pathology and Albert G. and Harriet G. Smith Endowed Professor at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. Dr. Bonsib received his BA, MS, and MD from Indiana University. He completed his pathology residency and a surgical pathology fellowship at the University of Iowa College of Medicine and a renal pathology fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was board certified by the American Board of Pathology in 1983.
Dr. Bonsib has written more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters focusing on urologic pathology and renal pathology including chapters in the widely referenced Heptinstall’s Pathology of the Kidney. He is Co-Editor of the recently published textbook Diagnostic Renal Pathology. He was one of three urologic pathologists from the United States invited by the WHO to Lyon, France to edit the kidney tumor section of the 2004 WHO blue book, Tumours of the Kidney and Male Genital-Urinary Tract, and authored or co-authored six chapters in that text.
Dr. Bonsib is a member of International Academy of Pathology, American Society of Nephrology, International Society of Nephrology, Renal Pathology Society, International Society of Urologic Pathology, and the American Society Clinical Pathologists.
