Dr. Jolanta Kowalewska, MD, PhD, joined Arkana Laboratories as a renal pathologist. She brings more than two decades of distinguished experience in medical renal pathology, including prior faculty and clinical appointments at the University of Washington, the Medical University of Bialystok, Cedars‑Sinai Medical Center, Eastern Virginia Medical School, and Ameripath/Quest Diagnostics.
She obtained her MD degree at the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland, and her PhD degree at the Medical University of Bialystok, Poland. She completed both her clinical renal pathology fellowship and a subsequent research fellowship at the University of Washington, building a foundation that has supported an exceptional career in native and transplant kidney pathology.
Dr. Kowalewska is internationally known for her contributions to renal pathology research, with a scholarly record that includes numerous peer‑reviewed publications, book chapters, and invited presentations at major nephrology and pathology conferences. Her work has advanced understanding of complex phenomena such as cryoglobulinemic glomerulonephritis, transplant rejection, viral‑associated renal injury, and immune‑mediated glomerular diseases.
She has also served in key professional roles, including committee leadership within the Renal Pathology Society and the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and has acted as an ad‑hoc reviewer for leading pathology and nephrology journals. Her contributions have earned honors such as the National Kidney Foundation Young Investigator Award and the University of Washington Anatomic Pathology Faculty Member of the Year distinction.
